
David Thompson
Director
David Thompson retired as deputy chairman and chief executive officer of Teck Cominco Limited in 2005. He held this position since August 2001, following the formal merger of Teck Corporation and Cominco Ltd. Prior to the merger, Thompson was president and chief executive officer of Cominco from 1995 to 2001.
Previously, David was co-managing director of Messina (Transvaal) prior to joining Teck Corporation in 1980 as chief financial officer, and has held a variety of senior management positions within the group.
David graduated in 1960 from the London School of Economics, England with a B.Sc. in economics. In 1976, he completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.
After 27 years of service, David Thompson retired from the Teck Board in 2007. He was Co-Chair of the B.C. Competition Council, Chair of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, and since 2010, has been Chair of the Health Services Purchasing Organization. He is a director of the Rio Tinto Alcan Fund and sits on the Advisory Board of Pacific Bio Energy.
