October 5, 2009 - Today, TSI Terminal Systems Inc. performed its first container lift with the new quad gantry cranes. The three cranes arrived from Shanghai on August 17th and are part of the Deltaport third berth expansion project.
A first in North and South America, the quad cranes are capable of lifting two 40ft or four 20ft containers to a maximum capacity of 80 tonnes. Each crane will be able to move between 35 and 40 40-foot containers per hour, for an estimated 40% increase in handling capacity. Commissioning and testing of all three cranes will take another three months and it is anticipated that the cranes will begin operation in January 2010.
