The new cranes, a first for North and South America, will be able to hoist two 40-foot containers or four 20-foot containers per single lift. Currently, cranes in North and South America are only able to lift one 40-foot container or two 20-foot containers at a time. Each crane will be able to move between 35 and 45 40-foot containers per hour with proper stowage for an estimated 40 percent increase in handling capacity.
It will take approximately four months for the testing and commissioning of the three cranes. The third berth expansion project is on budget and on time to open at the end of this year.
